Virginia Wilson Day
Virginia Wilson Day, 91, was called home on Christmas Day to be with her husband, Thornton Rogers Wilson; son, Thomas Singleton Wilson; and brothers, Singleton and Richard Wolfe. She is survived by her daughter, Lee, and her husband, Tom Tinney, of Wilmington, NC; her daughter, Betty Gee, of Buford, SC; her son, Thornton Rogers Wilson, Jr. (Buck) and his wife, Karen, of Richmond, VA; daughter-in-law, Connie Wilson; and her sister-in-law, Beverly Wolfe. Her grandchildren and their spouses are Beth and Kurt DeAngelo, Kendall and Michelle Gee, Mark and Samantha Gee, Michaux and Randy Holmes, Thomas Wilson and Susan, Kirsten and Dale Jones, Kat Weaver and Mike as well as Patrick, Beth, Katie and Julie Tinney, and Ashely and Heather Wilson. Virginia also had seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
As a devoted mother, she raised her family in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, where she was active in the community as a Pastor’s aide, member of Presbyterian Women and Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church, President of the Clara Hearne PTA, Den mother in the Boys Scouts, Girl Scout troop leader, member of the Cancer Society Board and member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Her family will miss her deeply, but takes comfort that she is now with Christ. The family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC on Monday, December 29, 2008 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, with a service to commemorate her life at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jane Love officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Virginia’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke Rapids or Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, North Carolina.
